Taiyuan University of Science and Technology is the first heavy machinery undergraduate college in New China. It is a multi-disciplinary university with distinctive school-running characteristics, and it is also an important talent training and research and development base in major technical equipment fields in China.

1952 School was founded as the predecessor of Shanxi Machinery Manufacturing Industry School, with Mr. Zhi, the founder of modern China machinery industry and the pioneer of China internal combustion engine development, as the principal. 1953 The school is under the Central Ministry of Machinery Industry. 1955 Changchun automobile school and Hankou machine building school merged into forging specialty. 1960 was renamed Taiyuan institute of heavy machinery. 1965 Dalian university of technology and Shenyang institute of mechanical and electrical engineering merged into the major of lifting and transportation machinery. 1998 was changed from provincial departments to * * * construction, with provincial management as the mainstay. In 2004, it was renamed Taiyuan University of Science and Technology. After nearly 70 years of construction, it has become an industry-oriented teaching and research university with distinctive equipment manufacturing characteristics and coordinated development of nine disciplines.
