Beijing Sport University was founded in 1953, formerly known as the Central Institute of Physical Education. 1956 was renamed Beijing Sport University, and 1993 was renamed Beijing Sport University. Formerly known as Central South Institute of Physical Education, it is one of the first independent full-time physical education institutions of higher learning in New China. 1953 was founded in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, 1955 moved to Wuhan City, Hubei Province, 1956 was renamed Wuhan Institute of Physical Education, directly under the State Sports General Administration. 200 1 was established by the State Sports General Administration and the People's Government of Hubei Province.
