Detailed explanation of food, clothing, housing and transportation during undergraduate study in American universities
Before writing, I would like to remind you that I wrote about the dormitory of undergraduate students in American universities, not the dormitory of graduate students/doctors. I am not the most familiar with their living conditions, so I can only say a few words briefly. This article focuses on the dormitory where I lived. The third/fourth grade dormitory. Overview: The dormitory in our school is divided into six districts (there were only five when we first entered the school, and then a new one was built). There are two centralized dormitory buildings for freshmen/sophomores (two students in each room), one decentralized dormitory building for juniors/seniors (two students in each room), two residential areas for graduate students/doctoral students (with wives and children) and one single residential area (newly built area, single room for each student). All first-year students can be guaranteed a place to live. Living on campus is not compulsory, and students choose voluntarily. If you want to live off campus, you can. There are apartments around the school. Dining: Our school has three student dining areas, all located in the dormitory group of junior students. Because the students who live in these two dormitories must be chartered (which is why I didn't sign up for these two dormitories). Students can choose different meal plans. 5 meals a week, 10, 20 meals, or buy meal coupons (all meal coupons are stored on the student card, and you only need to swipe your card every time you eat), or you can spend money directly in the dining area, but the price is much more expensive than buying in advance. All the food is self-help. Help yourself, from pizza to French fries, from fruits to ice cream, from salads to drinks. Parking: There is a parking area in each community, and the parking permit of each parking area is not universal. There are frequent patrol inspections, and those who stop casually are given tickets. Transportation: Because my dormitory is a little far from the school (20-30 minutes' walk), the school has a shuttle bus system. There are many stations in the school and dormitory area, and there are several special lines to pick up students from different areas. These are all free, and you don't need to check your student ID card. All the funds are provided by the student government, and all the drivers employed are college students, which not only creates employment opportunities, but also helps students solve problems. Accommodation: I'll tell you in detail about the dormitory I lived in, but it doesn't mean other dormitories. The university is about to start. I played outside all summer, and the freshmen didn't go to any lectures. The situation in the dormitory is not very clear. When the freshman day arrived, they moved, and then they gradually learned about the dormitory in the school. My dormitory is on the third floor, room 16, 8 rooms on the first floor, and 2 students in each room on the ground floor. This dormitory is a mixed building for men and women (not every dormitory is equipped with men and women, but there are 4 male dormitories and 4 female dormitories on each floor. Stop daydreaming! The theme of this building is Asian students, so the students in the building are basically Asian backgrounds, such as ABC, ABK, ABJ, Japanese students, exchange students from China and South Korea, and so on. ***32 people, plus our dormitory administrator. (Also a student at school, everyone can apply to be a dormitory administrator, and they can be hired after interviews at all levels of the school. The responsibility of the dormitory administrator is to remind everyone to observe discipline, for example, don't make too much noise at night, don't have any contradictions between classmates, and keep public areas clean, such as the kitchen. Anyway, I don't think I interfere in everyone's private lives. There will be a small meeting every month to inform everyone about the community and discuss any new regulations or problems. There are patrols in the dormitory at night, all of which are composed of dormitory administrators. They patrol the whole community in turn to ensure that the door is not open and strangers or animals can enter at will. The dormitory management office will send you an email every week to inform you of the major activities or various information related to students every week. The office center of the whole dormitory community is also a student activity room, with outdoor basketball court, big screen TV, sofa, table tennis table, billiards table, computer room and so on. Activities: Each dormitory can apply for holding various activities, and each building has its own activity funds. If it is not enough, you can also apply to the dormitory office. At my suggestion, this dormitory held a Spring Festival party, which was very successful (it cost several hundred dollars, provided by the dormitory reserve fund and the dormitory management office). American university dormitories give people the impression that organized management can help students understand how to live in groups. Dormitory is a place to provide logistical support, not a place to restrict your freedom with rules and regulations.
