The emblem of the University of Melbourne is based on a blue shield with a white goddess of victory holding a laurel crown and surrounded by four octagonal stars (symbolizing the Southern Cross). The school motto is Latin "Postera Crescamllaude", which comes from the ancient Roman poet Horace. We will grow up in the respect of future generations.
