Located in the revolutionary holy land of Yan 'an, it was jointly built by Shaanxi Provincial People's Government, China People's Government and Ministry of Education. It is a key university in Shaanxi Province, a high-level construction university in Shaanxi Province, and a pilot university for excellent doctoral education and training programs. It is the first comprehensive university named after Comrade Mao Zedong and founded by China * * * Production Party. Yan 'an University is supported by China Renmin University and Beijing Institute of Technology.
Yan 'an Vocational and Technical College was established in 2005.
Approved by the Shaanxi Provincial People's Government and put on record by the Ministry of Education, it is a public higher vocational college integrated by six schools, namely, Yan 'an Finance and Economics School, Yan 'an Education College, Yan 'an Normal School, Yan 'an Agricultural School, Yan 'an Electromechanical Engineering School and Yan 'an Forestry School.
