University of Science and Technology Beijing is one of the important bases for talent training and scientific and technological innovation of materials science and engineering in China, with a long history and fine traditions. The School of Materials Science and Engineering was formed by the merger of the Foundry Teaching and Research Section of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the Department of Metal Pressure Processing, the Department of Surface Science and Corrosion Engineering and the Department of Metallurgy 1996+ 10.
199865438+In February, the departments of materials physics and physical chemistry of the College of Applied Sciences were partially merged into the College of Materials Science and Engineering, and eight departments (institutes) were established, including the department of materials physics, the department of metallic materials, the department of inorganic nonmetallic materials, the department of functional materials and surface technology, the department of powder materials, the department of surface science and corrosion engineering, the department of metal pressure working and the casting research institute.
In March of 20001year, eight departments (institutes) were reorganized and four departments, two institutes and two centers were established, including materials department, materials processing and control engineering department, materials physics and chemistry department, inorganic nonmetallic materials department, powder metallurgy research institute, functional materials research institute, corrosion and protection center and experimental testing center. From June 5438 to February 2008, according to the school development plan, the Institute of New Materials Technology was established in the Institute of Materials, with two centers.
The Institute of Materials has formed its present structure, which consists of the Department of Materials, the Department of Materials Processing and Control Engineering, the Department of Materials Physics and Chemistry, the Department of Inorganic Nonmetallic Materials, and the Institute of Powder Metallurgy and Advanced Ceramics.
Facing the new century, the development goal of the college is to build a high-level research-oriented college with complete discipline direction, strong comprehensive strength, leading talent training, basic research and technological innovation in China and international influence.
