Hohai University, referred to as "Hehai", is located in Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education with a history of 100 years, featuring water conservancy and engineering, with coordinated development of multiple disciplines. It is jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Water Resources, the State Oceanic Administration and the People's Government of Jiangsu Province. It is the first unit in China that has the right to award doctoral, master and bachelor degrees.
It is the national key construction of "2 1 1 Project", "985 Engineering Advantage Discipline Innovation Platform" and graduate school. It is a national "double-first-class" world-class discipline construction university, with the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology and Water Resources and Hydraulic Engineering Science and the State Engineering Research Center for Efficient Utilization of Water Resources and Engineering Safety.
Hohai University's predecessor can be traced back to the "Hohai Engineering College" founded in Nanjing in 19 15. It is the first institution of higher learning in China to train water conservancy talents. 1924 merged with the Engineering Department of National Southeast University to form Hohai University of Technology, 1927 merged with National Fourth Sun Yat-sen University, and later renamed as National Central University and Nanjing University.
From 65438 to 0952, the water conservancy departments of Nanjing University, Jiaotong University, Tongji University, Zhejiang University and East China Water Conservancy College merged to form East China Water Conservancy College. 1960 was recognized as a national key university by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. 1985, the traditional school name "Hohai University" was restored, and Comrade Deng Xiaoping personally wrote the school name.
