The school's predecessor was Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. (formerly China No.2 Automobile Factory) 1972, and it was renamed as No.2 Automobile Workers' University in 1980. 65438-0983, approved by the State Council as a full-time undergraduate college, was officially named Hubei Automobile Institute, with Meng Shaonong, former academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, as the first president.
1985 granted the right to a bachelor's degree, and 1994 was listed in the university sequence of the Ministry of Machinery Industry. At the end of 2006, it was placed under the management of Hubei Provincial People's Government from Dongfeng Motor Group Co., Ltd. In 2008, it was rated as an excellent undergraduate teaching school by the Ministry of Education, and 20 1 1 was selected as the "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan" by the Ministry of Education.
20 13 was approved as a master's degree awarding unit, 20 15 was approved as a pilot undergraduate college for transformation and development in Hubei province, 20 16 successfully completed the inspection and evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education, and 20 17 successfully passed the special evaluation of disciplines authorized by master's degree. 20 18 was selected as the first batch of colleges and universities in the "New Engineering Research and Practice Project in Colleges and Universities" of the Ministry of Education.
