Sun Yat-sen University is a famous university with a fine tradition of running a school. 1924, founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, a great man of the century, wrote the school motto in his own hand: "erudition, interrogation, deliberation, discernment and perseverance". Formerly known as National Guangdong University, 1926, it was renamed National Sun Yat-sen University in memory of Dr. Sun Yat-sen.
In the 1930s, Sun Yat-sen University had seven colleges, including arts, science, law, engineering, agriculture, medicine and teachers' training. 1935, the school set up a research institute and began to recruit graduate students.
In 1950s, with the adjustment of Chinese universities, Sun Yat-sen University became a comprehensive university focusing on arts and sciences. Since the founding of New China, Sun Yat-sen University has been one of the national key universities, and it is also one of the first batch of doctoral and master's degree awarding units and the first batch of postdoctoral research mobile stations.
In September 2000, the Zhuhai Campus of Sun Yat-sen University was built in Tangjiawan, Zhuhai, which laid a solid foundation for the development of the new century. One of the predecessors of Sun Yat-sen University of Medical Sciences is Ji Bo Medical Hall, which was founded in 1866. It is the earliest western medicine college in China, where Dr. Sun Yat-sen studied medicine and engaged in revolutionary activities. From 65438 to 0936, Ji Bo Medical College developed into Lingnan University Medical College. 1953 The Medical College of Sun Yat-sen University and the Medical College of Lingnan University merged to form South China Medical College, 1954 Guangdong Guanghua Medical College merged.
The school was renamed Guangzhou Medical College and Zhongshan Medical College successively, and 1985 was renamed Zhongshan Medical University, and gradually developed into a multi-college medical university, with remarkable achievements in medical genetics, ophthalmology, oncology, parasitology, internal medicine and kidney disease, organ transplantation, infectious liver disease, biomedical engineering and molecular medicine.
