South China Agricultural University is a national "double-class" university and a national key university. It is a provincial university jointly established by the Guangdong Provincial People's Government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

By August 2022, the school had a total land area of 826 1 mu, a total construction area of10.4 million square meters, and 3,459 faculty members. There are 25 colleges (departments), with 102 undergraduate majors, 14 first-class disciplines authorized by doctoral degrees, 1 one first-class disciplines authorized by doctoral degrees, 30 first-class disciplines authorized by master degrees and 19 first-class disciplines authorized by master degrees. Crop science has been selected as a national "first-class construction discipline".

South China Agricultural University, formerly known as Guangdong Agricultural Experimental Field and Agricultural Workshop, was founded in 1909. [2] 1952 The Agricultural College of Sun Yat-sen University and the Agricultural College of Lingnan University merged with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Pests and Diseases of Guangxi University to form South China Agricultural College. 1984 was renamed as South China Agricultural University.
