Southwest University Geographic Science Experimental Teaching Center is a platform for undergraduates majoring in physical geography, human geography, GIS and other related majors to carry out geographic experiments, practical skills and research methods teaching.

19521June 12, the geography department of southwest normal university was established, and the laboratory was also established as a platform for teaching and scientific research. At the beginning of its establishment, a physical geography laboratory including soil, geology, plants, surveying, hydrology, landforms and meteorology was established, and a geographical information system laboratory also took shape, forming an influential geographical science experimental teaching in southwest China and even the whole country. It has created a group of influential geography experts, such as Sheng, Yang, Xu and so on. After 1999, under the leadership of Professor Yuan Daoxian, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the level of teaching and scientific research in geography has been greatly improved, and four master's degree points have been obtained, namely, post-doctoral research station in geography, doctoral authorization point in physical geography, physical geography, human geography, geographic information system and Quaternary geology. Physical geography and human geography are listed as the first batch of provincial key disciplines in Chongqing. In 2007, the geography building was completed and put into use. In order to train high-quality geography teachers and applied talents in physical geography, geographic information and urban and rural planning to meet the needs of discipline construction and development, the experimental center has continuously invested, optimized equipment configuration, combined various scientific research projects with teaching and carried out various innovative activities. So far, the Geographic Science Experimental Center of Southwest University has become an advanced experimental center with complete supporting facilities, advanced experimental instruments and strong scientific research and teaching strength, and has obvious advantages in geography teaching and experiment.

The central experimental center covers an area of 3000m, and the total fixed assets are150,000 yuan. There are 28 compulsory and elective experimental courses and 203 projects in 8 majors. There are 14 laboratories in the center, including plant laboratory, soil laboratory, geological laboratory, weather station, planetarium, geological museum, geography teaching method laboratory, surveying laboratory, remote sensing laboratory, geographic information system laboratory, karst environment laboratory, geochemistry and isotope laboratory, microorganism laboratory and Quaternary laboratory. There are practice bases in Jinfo Mountain, Qingmuguan, Jinyun Mountain, Chongqing Geographic Information Center and Yungui. It undertakes 123556 experimental practice hours every year, and faces 1200 students.

Professor Xie, academician Yuan Daoxian, consultant and director of the experimental center, strongly advocated that geography education should attach importance to hands-on practice, let students actively participate in scientific research practice and pay attention to improving the level and ability of experimental teachers. The geographical science experimental demonstration center * * * has 5 1 full-time/part-time experimental teachers/technicians and managers, of which more than 57% have the title of associate professor and more than 67% have the doctorate. With the support of schools and colleges, the teaching staff of the center made joint efforts to publish two experimental teaching materials, namely, the acquisition method and application of basic geographic information and the basic and experimental course of geographic information system, and another eight experimental teaching materials were written by themselves. Won 9 provincial and municipal scientific and technological progress awards; Undertake 5 educational reform and scientific research projects. In addition, 44 undergraduate innovation funds were launched, two of which were commended by the school.

With the attention and support of schools and colleges, the geographical science experimental demonstration center is based on "paying equal attention to practical teaching and theoretical teaching, consolidating basic knowledge of geosciences, cultivating modern analytical skills, stimulating scientific research innovation consciousness, improving sustainable development ability, and cultivating applied talents for geographical information and urban and rural planning that adapt to social and economic development". Adhere to the teaching philosophy of "focusing on the earth system to cultivate experimental skills, cultivate innovative spirit and harmonize the relationship between man and land", aim at cultivating applied and compound talents, and strive for the long-term development goal of "based in Chongqing, radiating southwest China, serving the whole country and facing the world". The Laboratory of Geochemistry and Isotope of Southwest University was established in June 2005, 5438+065438+ 10, which belongs to the School of Geographical Sciences of Southwest University. This paper mainly studies the global changes with carbonate as the core, including cave sediments, lake sediments, travertine, corals, marine foraminifera shells and other records, as well as the ecological environment evolution in karst areas such as groundwater, surface water, soil and lakes. The academic team of the laboratory has/kloc-0 academicians, 2 doctoral supervisors and 5 regular researchers. We have also maintained close academic exchanges with counterparts in China, the United States, Israel and other countries and Taiwan Province Province, and conducted high-level cooperative research with world-class scientists.

The laboratory has newly purchased a batch of advanced scientific research equipment, which can meet the needs of geochemistry and isotope research. The main large-scale instruments are: finnigan XR laser injection high-resolution inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (LA-ICP-MS), connected with UP2 13-AI laser erosion injection system for New Wave research; Finnigan Delta V IRMS gas isotope mass spectrometer is connected with Kiel IV carbonate sample automatic sampling system, GasBench II water sample measuring system and EA/Conflo III element analyzer. It can measure carbon and oxygen isotopes in carbonate, hydrogen, oxygen and carbon (DIC) isotopes in water samples and hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen and sulfur isotopes in organic matter. Perkin-Elmer Optima2100 DV ICP-OES can measure 73 kinds of constants and trace elements.
