The Medical College of Qingdao University is one of the first medical colleges approved by the State Council with the right to confer master's degrees, and it is also a pilot university of the excellent doctor training program of the Ministry of Education. The historical origin of medical education in Qingdao University can be traced back to Qingdao College, also known as Dehua College, which was founded in 1909.

The medical department has eight undergraduate majors, including clinical medicine, medical laboratory science, medical imaging, pediatrics, preventive medicine, stomatology, pharmacy and nursing. Clinical medicine is a national specialty and a provincial key specialty. In February 2002, the Ministry of Education approved the enrollment of seven-year students in this major (now 5+3 integrated clinical medicine major). Medical imaging and medical examination are provincial majors.
