The University of Hong Kong is located to the east of Pokfulam Road in the west of Hong Kong Island. It is a comprehensive research university with ten colleges and an independent research institute. It is the first higher education institution in Hong Kong. Its predecessor was Hong Kong College of Western Medicine, which was established in 1887 and officially opened in 19 12. Adhering to the motto of "Mingde Wu Ge", the school has been advocating high-quality teaching since its establishment. Students study in groups. On September 22nd, 20 15, HKU ranked sixth in the "Rankings of Taiwan Province University in Chinese mainland" in 20 15. 20 15 10 16, ranked 40th among the world medical universities.
