Jia Shiqiu's fraud storm
On June 29th, 2009, someone posted a blog post on the Internet, claiming that the academic works submitted by Jia Shiqiu, vice president of the School of Journalism and Communication of Zhengzhou University, in the evaluation of full professors' titles in 2006 were suspected of fraud, and pointing out that there were many doubts in his application form for evaluation of senior titles. This blog post immediately attracted widespread attention. Zhengzhou University paid close attention to this matter and quickly set up an investigation team to investigate.

According to the author of the blog post, I came across an application form for the evaluation of professors' titles in Zhengzhou University in 2006, and found a lot of "shocking" information in the evaluation form of senior titles. Secondly, in the column of "representative works published since taking office" in the form, the person filling in the form is "research series of news spokesperson system", which includes three books, among which "Introduction to news spokesperson system" is marked as "independent works" (published by Huaxia Publishing House).

The author of the blog post claimed that she had called the editor-in-chief of Huaxia Publishing House to ask, and a woman who answered the phone searched the database of the agency for the book "Introduction to the Press Spokesperson System", and clearly replied that there was definitely no such book in the database.

Later, I accidentally discovered that another person claimed to be the author of the book "Introduction to the Press Spokesperson System" and was accused of "making something out of nothing" in his blog post. The author's name is Sun. Sun said that when he was studying in Renmin University of China, Jia Shiqiu was his teacher sister, and they were very familiar with each other. As for why this book will become an academic monograph in the return of others, and it is a solo book, "then I am not sure." The blog post also hinted that the applicant's other academic achievements were also problematic.

For example, Fu's thesis "On the Influence of Broadband on Communication". According to the data, the author was a doctoral student at China Renmin University when he submitted his manuscript in 2003. In addition, the article "The host should have the law in his mind" in the application form is suspected of multiple contributions, and the publication in the evaluation form came from News Frontline in June 1996+00, and almost the same paper as this one was also published in Sound Screen World in September 1996.

The author of the blog post also wrote that some people in the industry believe that when evaluating professional titles, some university teachers suffer from lack of works and go to printing factories to print their own fabricated "books" at high prices. The printing quality of these books is the same as that of regular publications, and they all have book numbers and publishers. Anyway, as long as there is a formal book, it has it. However, this book number is often compiled by itself, and the publishing house must be formal. Anyway, when evaluating professional titles, just give two or three sample books, and those judges don't check the authenticity of these books. So you can get the title of professor. And these so-called academic "works" are always only a few, only the author himself, can only be seen at the evaluation site and the registration of scientific research results, and then they have completed their mission and disappeared forever. According to the investigation of Zhengzhou University, Jia Shiqiu, vice president of the School of Journalism and Communication, provided false materials in the process of declaring the title of professor, which was an academic misconduct. According to the spirit of the Notice of the Ministry of Education on Seriously Handling Academic Misconduct in Colleges and Universities and the relevant regulations of the school, Zhengzhou University decided to remove Jia Shiqiu from the post of vice president of the School of Journalism and Communication and dismiss him as a professor.

A spokesperson for Zhengzhou University said that Zhengzhou University will take this as a warning to further standardize the academic behavior of teachers and students, further strengthen the construction of academic ethics, carry forward the excellent style of study, and create a good academic and cultural atmosphere.
