Harbin Institute of Technology (hereinafter referred to as Harbin Institute of Technology), headquartered in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and ranks among the national first-class, 985 Project, 21Project, Nine-University Alliance, Pacific Rim University Alliance, China University Presidents Association and Excellent University Alliance.

The school was founded in 1920, and its name is Harbin Sino-Russian Industrial School. After the period of China-Russia University of Technology and East Special Zone University of Technology, it was officially named Harbin Institute of Technology on 1928. 195 1 has been identified as one of the two demonstration universities in China to learn the mode of running foreign higher education, and 1954 has entered the first batch of six key universities in China.
1996 entered the first batch of key construction universities in the national "2 1 1 project". 1999 was identified as one of the first nine universities in the "985 Project". In 2000, it merged with Harbin Jianzhu University to form the new Harbin Institute of Technology.
