Southwest University is a normal college directly under the Ministry of Education. Southwest University is located in Beibei District of Chongqing, directly under the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China (PRC), and is a national key university jointly established by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Chongqing. It is the first batch of "double first-class" universities in China, and it is the innovation platform of "21engineering" and "985 engineering advantage discipline". The school covers an area of about 8295 mu, with a school building area of 6.5438+0.87 million square meters.

The school can be traced back to East Sichuan Normal School as early as 1906, and 1936 was renamed Sichuan Institute of Education.

1950, the departments of education, Chinese, foreign languages, history, geography and mathematics of Sichuan Institute of Education merged with the National Women's Teachers College established in 1940 to form Southwest Normal College, and the departments of agronomy, horticulture and agricultural products manufacturing merged with the private Xianghui College established in 1946 to form Southwest Agricultural College. From 65438 to 0985, the two schools were renamed Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University respectively. In 2005, Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University merged to form Southwest University.
