Project 2 1 1 and Project 985 are two higher education development projects promoted by the Ministry of Education of China, aiming at improving the running level and scientific research strength of a number of national key universities. Project 2 1 1 started in 1995. With the support of national funds and policies, the construction and development of 2 1 1 universities have been promoted. Project 985 was started on 1998, which provided more policy and resource support for top universities in China and promoted them to become world-class research universities.
With the approval of the Ministry of Education, Beijing Forestry University is listed in the List of Colleges for Evaluating Teaching Level of the Ministry of Education, and it is one of the 2 1 1 engineering universities. But it has not been recognized as a 985 engineering university so far.

Beijing Forestry University
Beijing Forestry University, referred to as "Beilin" for short, is located in Beijing. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the State Forestry and Grassland Bureau and the Beijing Municipal People's Government. It is a national "double first-class" construction university and a "2 1 1 engineering" construction university, and has been selected as the 985 engineering advantage discipline innovation platform, outstanding agricultural and forestry personnel education and training plan and the "206548" project.
The school can be traced back to 1902, Shi Jing University. 1952 The Forestry Department of Beijing Agricultural University and the Forestry Department of Hebei Agricultural College merged to form Beijing Forestry College. 1956 The Department of Landscape Architecture of Beijing Agricultural University and the Department of Architecture of Tsinghua University were partially merged into the school. 1960 is listed as a national key institution of higher learning. 1985 was renamed Beijing Forestry University.
