Nanjing University can be traced back to Nanjing Imperial College in 258 AD. The modern history of Nanjing University began with Sanjiang Normal School founded by 1902, and was renamed Nanjing University on 1950 after the historical periods of Liangjiang Normal School, Nanjing Higher Normal School, National Southeast University and National Central University. 1952, Nanjing University merged with the College of Arts and Sciences of Jinling University founded in 1888 and was still named Nanjing University.
