The college has the right to award doctoral degrees in the first-class discipline of electrical engineering and the post-doctoral mobile station of electrical engineering, forming a compound interdisciplinary system with electrical engineering as the core and integrating control engineering, computer science and other disciplines, and has an all-round talent training system at undergraduate, master and doctoral levels. It has five complete disciplines: power system and automation (national key discipline), electrical machinery and appliances (Shandong key discipline), power electronics and transmission, high voltage and insulation technology, and electrical theory and new technology. Among them, "Electrical Engineering and Automation" is a national first-class characteristic construction specialty and a Shandong province characteristic specialty, and it is the first implementation unit of the "Excellent Engineer Training Plan" and the first implementation unit of the national energy Internet specialty. The college has more than 200 undergraduates/kloc-0, more than 600 graduate students and more than 20 international students.

The college consists of power system research institute, relay protection research institute, motor and electrical equipment research institute, power electronics and power transmission research institute, electrician theory and new technology research institute, high voltage and insulation technology research institute, renewable energy and smart grid research institute. It has four Shandong engineering technology centers, namely, the Key Laboratory of Smart Grid Dispatching and Control of the Ministry of Education, the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of Electric Vehicle Interconnection Technology, the Shandong Collaborative Innovation Center of Global Energy Internet, the Shandong Key Laboratory of UHV Power Transmission and Transformation Technology and Equipment, the Permanent Magnet Motor, Magnetic Separation, Magnetic Suspension Bearing, Power Quality Optimization Design, and the Shandong Electrical and Electronic Experimental Teaching.
