Shaanxi Agricultural Science and Technology University is actually Northwest A&F University, which is called Xinong or Northwest Agricultural University for short. It is located in Yangling Demonstration Zone, Shaanxi Province. It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of China, a vice-ministerial institution directly under the central government, and a national "double-class" construction university.

He was selected into the National Strong Foundation Plan, "11plan", "201/plan", the education and training plan for outstanding talents in agriculture and forestry, the practice project of new agricultural scientific research reform, the national postgraduate project of high-level universities, the national model university for deepening the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education, and the scholarship for foreign students from China government.

One of the 40 key universities in the "Subject Construction Plan for Aid to Xinjiang" jointly established by the Ministry of Education, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Water Resources, the State Forestry Administration and Shaanxi Province is the birthplace of modern higher agricultural education in northwest China and the most complete agricultural college in China, with the wine major ranking first in the country.

The school was formerly the National Northwest A&F University. Seven scientific and educational institutions, including Northwest Agricultural University, Northwest Forestry College, Institute of Soil and Water Conservation of Ministry of Water Resources, Northwest Water Conservancy Research Institute of Ministry of Water Resources, Shaanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shaanxi Academy of Forestry and Northwest Botany Institute of China Academy of Sciences, were merged to form Northwest A&F University.
