According to China Education Online, the Third Military Medical University refers to the Army Military Medical University of the People's Liberation Army, which is located in Chongqing, a municipality directly under the central government, and is the first batch of national key universities after the founding of New China. The 985 and 2 1 1 universities in Chongqing are: Chongqing University (985, 2 1 1) and Southwest University (2 1 1). So the Third Military Medical University is neither 985 nor 2 1 1.

The PLA Army Medical University is one of the key construction institutions of the Army's "2 1 10 Project", a pilot institution of "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Program", the first batch of authorized units for doctoral degrees in China, and the first batch of eight-year medical education institutions in China.
