Luzhou Medical College is also called Southwest Medical University. The school is located in Luzhou, a famous historical and cultural city in Sichuan Province. It is a pilot university of the "Excellent Doctor Education and Training Plan" and "Sichuan 20 1 1 Plan" of the national ministries and commissions. Its predecessor was Southwest Sichuan Medical College, which was founded in 195 1. 1959 was renamed Luzhou medical college, 1978 was upgraded to Luzhou medical college, and on 20 15 it was renamed Sichuan medical university.
