During the period of 1960, colleges and universities in Hunan Province were reorganized, and Jishou University retained its name and established Teachers College. In the same year, the physics and chemistry group and physics department were established. 1972, the School of Foreign Languages of Jishou University was established.

1973, the established discipline of chemistry. The CPC Central Committee smashed the counter-revolutionary clique of the Gang of Four in one fell swoop, ending ten years of civil strife. With the concern of Hua Guofeng, secretary of the provincial party committee and other leaders, Jishou University quickly restored the school order.

At the same time, Hunan Medical University Xiangxi Branch (now Xiangya Medical College of Central South University) merged into Jishou University to form the Medical Department, Xiangtan University Xiangxi Branch merged into Jishou University to form the Physical Education Department, and Hunan Medical College Xiangxi Branch merged into Jishou University to form the Medical Department.
