Central South University is a high-level university under the "985 Project". The first batch of key universities under the "20 1 1 Plan" was selected into the A-class construction list of world-class universities. In the first round of "double first-class", mathematics, material science and engineering, metallurgical engineering and mining engineering of Central South University were selected into the list of double first-class disciplines. Mathematics was added in the second round. Central South University was formed in April 2000 by the merger of Hunan Medical University, Changsha Railway Institute and Central South University of Technology. Hunan Medical University, formerly known as Xiangya Medical College, was founded in 19 14. It is one of the earliest institutions of higher learning of western medicine in China.
