Automobile industry is the pillar industry of Chongqing. In recent years, Chongqing's automobile output has jumped to the third place in the country, which is in such a favorable environment. After more than 20 years' construction, the teaching conditions of the Department of Automotive Engineering are good and the teachers are strong. As early as 1993, the department was allowed to set up a master's degree program in vehicle engineering, and 1997 set up a master's degree program in power machinery and engineering. 1998, set up a doctoral program in vehicle engineering. In recent years, this 1 doctoral program and two master programs recruit about 20 doctoral and master students every year.

Some of the scientific research projects completed in the past ten years have won provincial and ministerial awards, and some technologies have obtained patent applications. These scientific research achievements have strongly supported economic construction and strengthened the contact between schools and enterprises. Departments and enterprises have jointly established body research institute, automobile lamps research institute, automobile suspension research institute and automobile brake research institute, so that scientific research results can better serve production. We also got effective economic support from enterprises. The development of these scientific research work and the combination with enterprises have also promoted the reform and development of teaching and provided more opportunities for engineering practice training for students.
