Guizhou University, referred to as "Da Gui", is located in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province. It is a "Ministry-based, Ministry-provincial" university jointly established by the Ministry of Education and the Guizhou Provincial People's Government. It is a national "world-class discipline construction university", "2 1 1 project" key construction university and "one province, one school" key construction university, and has been selected as a national-level university.

The school actively serves the local economic and social development, and has signed comprehensive cooperation agreements with 9 cities, prefectures and more than 20 counties in Guizhou Province. It has cooperated with many enterprises such as Wengfu Group, Maotai Group, China Unicom Guizhou Branch and Chery Wanda Company, and implemented the action plan of rejuvenating the village with doctors through science and technology, the action plan of 100 professors and doctors entering enterprises, and the action plan of science and technology commissioners.

The school pays special attention to cultivating and developing distinctive and advantageous disciplines to serve the regional economic and social development in Guizhou. Research institutions such as Liquor Research Institute, International Folk Art Research Institute, Karst Landform Museum, Western Minority Museum, Yangming Culture Research Institute, ASEAN Research Institute, Long March Culture Research Institute, Guizhou Big Data Industry Development and Application Research Institute, and Western Youth Mental Health Research Center have been established.
