Yangtze University was formed in April 2003 by the merger of Jianghan Petroleum Institute (formerly a university directly under the Ministry of Petroleum Industry), Hubei Agricultural College (formerly separated from Huazhong Agricultural College), Jingzhou Normal College and Hubei Medical College of Health Workers. It is a key construction university in Hubei Province and the largest comprehensive university with the most comprehensive disciplines among Hubei provincial universities.
The West Campus of Yangtze University is one of the campuses of Yangtze University in Jingzhou. Freshmen of Yangtze University study here, which is under the unified leadership and management of the first-year teaching department of Yangtze University. Its predecessor is Hubei Agricultural College, and its campus is located in Jingzhou, a famous historical and cultural city.
The campus covers an area of nearly 2,500 mu, with a total construction area of over 250,000 square meters. Binjiang and Fenghua Garden have 8 dormitory buildings, 2 student apartments and 7 teaching buildings. There are more than 7,000 undergraduates and more than 900 faculty members.
