The preparatory class of Yanbian University only recruits minority candidates, and does not indicate where they belong. Among them, Koreans account for 80%, and other ethnic minorities account for 20%, as long as they are not Han.

Yanbian University, founded in 1949, once belonged to the Ministry of Higher Education of the State Council, and 1957 belonged to Jilin Province. From August 65438 to August 0958, Yanbian University was divided into Yanbian University, Yanbian Medical College, Yanbian Agricultural College and Yanbian Institute of Technology. 1996 With the approval of the former State Education Commission, the former Yanbian University, Yanbian Medical College, Yanbian Agricultural College, Yanbian Normal College and Yanbian Branch of Jilin Art College merged to form a new Yanbian University.
