Hainan University is located in Haikou City, Hainan Province. Its predecessor was the former South China University of Tropical Agriculture founded by 1958 and the former Hainan University founded by 1983. In August 2007, the two universities merged into the new Hainan University. 20 17 was selected as the national "world-class discipline" construction university.
As of March 2022, the school has a campus area of 6,073 mu, with 36 secondary colleges, 13 first-class doctoral programs and 1 professional doctoral programs, 34 first-class master programs, 2 1 master degree categories, 74 undergraduate majors, 6 postdoctoral mobile stations and more than 2,500 full-time teachers.

The first batch of bases of the Chinese-foreign Humanities Exchange Center of the Ministry of Education's "Innovative Practice Project for Training Talents in International Organizations" are 2, Hainan Key Laboratory 14, Hainan Engineering Research Center 10, Hainan Haizhi Planning Workstation 4, Hainan Academician Workstation 15, Academician Team Innovation Center 23, and Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center/KLOC.
