Generally speaking, education in primitive society mainly has the following three characteristics:

Wushu system began in the Tang Dynasty.

The basic textbooks and imperial examinations in this period are based on the Four Books and Five Classics (the Four Books refer to the University, the Doctrine of the Mean, The Analects of Confucius and Mencius, and the Five Classics refer to the Book of Songs, Shangshu, Book of Rites, Zhouyi and Chunqiu).

Academies prevailed in Song Dynasty. The six famous academies are Bailudong Academy, Shigu Academy, Yuelu Academy, Yingtianfu Academy, Songyang Academy and Maoshan Academy.

After the Ming Dynasty, eight-part essay became the fixed format of imperial examination. The appearance of stereotyped writing marks the decline of education in feudal society.

The imperial examination system was not abolished until 1905 (thirty-one year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty).
