There are several ministries of education in China.
The national education bureaus (offices) are divided by provincial level: there are probably more than 30. There are more than 280 national education bureaus at the municipal level. There are more than 2,860 county-level education bureaus in China. There are 23 provinces at the provincial level: Hebei, Shanxi, Jilin, Liaoning, Heilongjiang, Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Shandong, Fujian, Zhejiang, Taiwan Province, Henan, Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Guangdong, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan. 4 municipalities directly under the Central Government: Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Chongqing. Five autonomous regions: Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Xizang Autonomous Region. There are 283 prefecture-level cities, 17 regions, 30 autonomous prefectures and 3 leagues in the municipal district. There are 852 municipal districts, 374 county-level cities, 1464 counties, 1 17 autonomous counties, 49 flags, 3 autonomous flags, 2 special zones and 1 forest areas, with a total of 2862 county-level districts.
