China Education and Research Computer Network (CERNET) is a national academic computer internet invested by the state, managed by the Ministry of Education, and built and operated by universities such as Tsinghua University. It is the largest public welfare Internet in China. 1996 was recognized by the State Council as one of the four national backbone networks.

Universities generally use educational networks, and most websites ending in edu are educational networks.
