English learning journey across national boundaries
American children learn English and have been exposed to English since childhood, while China children work silently at school. As a native American father and educator, I want to share some observations and opinions.

Reading culture is the key

In America, children have been exposed to letters and pronunciations since preschool. Through daily reading and writing assignments, they learn to understand and express themselves. Over the past year, reading hundreds of books has greatly improved their English level. This reading culture is the key for American students to take the lead in humanities courses.

Pay attention to reading and writing experience

Meanwhile, children in China learn English by memorizing more words. In America, children pay more attention to reading and writing according to the rules of letter pronunciation. In the third grade, they began to pay attention to the accuracy of spelling, but before that, they had accumulated a lot of reading and writing experience.

Experience different cultures

Speaking of Americans learning foreign languages, although universities have foreign language requirements, our children also have the opportunity to experience different cultures. Many private middle schools offer hundreds of foreign language choices, and schools often provide opportunities for studying and communicating in China. The active participation of parents is also an important driving force for the healthy growth of children.
