Dalian Jiaotong University, located in Dalian, Liaoning Province, is a university jointly founded by the People's Government of Liaoning Province and the former Ministry of Railways of People's Republic of China (PRC). It is a key construction university of first-class universities in Liaoning Province, and has the qualification of recommending excellent undergraduate graduates to pursue postgraduate studies without examination. It is the first batch of pilot colleges and universities, the national international training base for software talents (Dalian), the innovative experimental zone of national talent training mode, the national high-level sports team colleges and sports culture research bases, the innovative talent training experimental base of China-US talent training plan 12 1 project, the scholarship receiving institution of China government for overseas students, and the emergency management college. Industry-University-Research Cooperative Innovation Base, Liaoning Vehicle Engineering Shortage Undergraduate Talent Training Base, Liaoning Service Outsourcing Talent Training Base and Dalian Northeast Asia International Shipping Talent Training Base are universities initiated by China Rail Transit Equipment Manufacturing Innovation Alliance, member universities of China-Russia Jiaotong University Alliance, and leading universities of Liaoning rail transit industry school-enterprise alliance. It is also the only university in Northeast China that features rail transit.

Dalian Jiaotong University was founded in June 1956, when it was Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Manufacturing School; 1958 was upgraded to Dalian Railway Institute and managed by the former Ministry of Railways; In February 2000, it was placed under the management of Liaoning provincial government, and the management system of "joint construction between the central and local governments, with local management as the mainstay" was implemented; In May 2004, it was renamed Dalian Jiaotong University with the approval of the Ministry of Education.
