At present, most international schools for foreign children in Shanghai strictly implement the regulations of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and only recruit the accompanying children of foreigners who hold foreign passports and come to work in Shanghai through legal channels and have obtained the Shanghai Employment Permit for Foreigners and the Residence Permit for Foreigners. However, China citizens can also register in the following two situations:

1. Children born abroad by China citizens, children with overseas legal birth certificates.

2. After studying abroad for more than two years, the whole family can obtain permanent residence status in the country where they study, and they can apply to the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission for admission to foreign children's schools.
