Academy is a non-governmental educational institution of Han nationality. At first, it was only a local educational institution, which first appeared in the Tang Dynasty. The formal education system was founded by Zhu and developed in the Song Dynasty. During the reign of Emperor Renzong in Qing Dynasty, official schools were established in all states, and some academies merged with official schools. During the reign of Zongshen, the imperial court allocated all the money and grain of the academy to state schools, and the academy once declined.
