The first activity of the National Primary and Secondary School Safety Publicity and Education Day
1996 On March 25th, Li Lanqing, then member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and vice premier of the State Council, delivered a televised speech on the first safety education day for primary and secondary school students in China, demanding that the whole society should care about the safety work of primary and secondary schools. In daily work, education administrative departments at all levels and primary and secondary schools are required to strengthen the publicity of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Road Traffic Safety, adhere to and improve the queuing system for primary school students after school, and actively explore the establishment of various systems to ensure students' traffic safety through holding lectures, knowledge contests, watching traffic accident case videos, distributing safety manuals, making publicity panels, organizing traffic safety training camps and other activities. Vividly educate students how to prevent fire, crowded trampling, traffic, drowning and other accidents. Educate teachers and students to consciously abide by traffic laws and regulations and prevent traffic accidents.
