Establish a compulsory education system
1 In May 1985, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China made the Decision on the Reform of the Education System.1In April 1986, the Fourth Session of the Sixth National People's Congress passed and promulgated the Compulsory Education Law of People's Republic of China (PRC), which came into effect on July1of the same year. This is the most important educational legislation since the founding of the People's Republic of China, which marks the establishment of a compulsory education system in China.

Nine-year compulsory education

The Compulsory Education Law stipulates: "The state implements nine-year compulsory education. Provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government shall determine the steps to implement compulsory education according to the economic and cultural development of the region. "

1986 In September, the State Council forwarded the Opinions on Several Issues Concerning the Implementation of the Compulsory Education Law issued by the State Education Commission, the State Planning Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Labor and Personnel, pointing out that the starting age of compulsory education is 6 years old. Children with learning disabilities are exempt from attending school, and their school attendance may be delayed due to illness or special reasons.
