About the author:

Edmundo de Amicis (1846101October 3 1) was born in Liguria, a coastal city in Peria province. He loved military life since he was a child. 16 years old entered Mardena Military Academy, 1865 became an officer after graduation, and 1866 took an active part in the third Italian War of Independence. 1868, he published his first novel, Life in the Barracks, and became famous for it. 1870 after the liberation of Rome, he gave up his military career and settled in Turin.
