The Analects of Confucius is one of the Confucian classics and a collection of quotations compiled by Confucius' disciples and his disciples to record their words and deeds. It embodies Confucius' political ideas, ethical thoughts, moral concepts and educational principles.
This sentence comes from the first chapter of The Analects. The original text is Confucius:' Learn from time to time, don't you? Is it not delightful to have friends coming from distant quarters? I don't know and I don't care. Isn't it a gentleman?' Confucius said,' isn't it pleasant to learn and learn from the times?
Is it not delightful to have friends coming from distant quarters? I'm not disgusted or angry that people don't know me. Isn't this a moral gentleman? Zhu, a famous scholar in Song Dynasty, spoke highly of this chapter, saying that it is the door of enlightenment and the foundation of virtue accumulation.
The Analects of Confucius retains some people's criticisms and satires on Confucius' mentoring, some of which have been refuted and some have not answered. Its refutation and debate have a great influence on later generations, such as answering a guest's question and answering questions, all inspired by the Analects of Confucius. Its self-deprecating part shows the Confucian affirmation of self-worth and the praise of the positive spirit of knowing that it cannot be done.
