What is the National Open University?
The National Open University is a new type of university supported by modern information technology, which provides continuing education services for members of society with and without academic qualifications, aiming at promoting fair educational opportunities, sharing high-quality educational resources and continuously improving the quality of the people. The core concepts of the school are: openness, responsibility, quality, diversification and internationalization.

The predecessor of the National Open University is the Central Radio and TV University, which was initiated and founded by Comrade Deng Xiaoping on the basis of learning from the experience of the British Open University. Officially opened on February 6th, 1979. 2065438+On July 3, 20021,the National Open University was inaugurated on the basis of Radio and TV University. Comrade Liu Yandong attended the meeting and delivered an important speech.

Over the past 40 years, the school has enrolled more than 20.5 million students of all kinds and trained 1.5 1.2 million graduates. At present, there are 238 majors (directions) with enrollment qualifications, including senior high school 13 undergraduate majors (directions), junior college 167 undergraduate majors (directions). There are 43 10000 students in higher education, 70% of whom are from the grassroots and 55% are in the central and western regions. The school has built a "school-running community" consisting of headquarters, 45 provincial branches, 14 industry colleges and more than 4,000 learning centers, covering urban and rural areas throughout the country and serving lifelong learning for the whole people.

1. "Internet plus University"

Supported by modern information technology, the National Open University adapts to the development trend of modern information technology and forms a new model of "cloud, road and terminal" education informatization integration. In terms of digital learning environment, a one-stop and integrated distance education cloud platform will be built for teaching, learning, management, scientific research and service. 538 cloud classrooms have been built, covering 3/kloc-0 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government in Chinese mainland, covering western regions such as Xinjiang, Tibet, Qinghai, Gansu, Inner Mongolia and Sichuan, and entering "Belt and Road" countries such as Tanzania and Pakistan. R&D has opened the "O School" mobile learning terminal, and carried out a pilot project among farmers and college students in Hunan.

The National Digital Learning Resource Center has been established, which has gathered more than 50,000 high-quality courses, and established 247 sub-centers with other universities, vocational schools and social education institutions, exploring and forming an operating mechanism of resource pooling, co-construction and sharing. According to the characteristics of adult fragmented learning, 30,000 "five-minute courses" were developed and opened to the public free of charge. Construction of 280 excellent courses, three rural and characteristic courses 120 courses.

2. Education of specific groups

The National Open University pays special attention to the educational needs of grassroots, rural areas, border areas and ethnic minority areas, carries out education for specific groups, undertakes social responsibilities and promotes educational equity. At present, among the registered students, there are 200,000 farmers, 270,000 ethnic minority students and 6,000 disabled students.

Undertaking the "one college student in one village" plan of the Ministry of Education (also known as the "talent training plan for rural revitalization"), we have trained a large number of new professional farmers who can "stay and do well". There are 7 disciplines and 25 related majors suitable for rural development, with a total enrollment of 680,000 and nearly 460,000 graduates.

The Institute of Education for the Disabled provides academic education and on-the-job training for the disabled throughout the country. At present, 54 local colleges and teaching centers have been established in China, offering 1 1 undergraduate and specialist majors. Undergraduate and junior college students enrolled 17375, and 9968 graduated.

Non-commissioned officers' distance education actively serves the construction of learning-oriented military camps, making the dream of non-commissioned officers "not leaving the university at the camp gate" come true. Established the General Staff College, Bayi College, Air Force College and Zhong You College. There are 22 military specialties and more than 800 teaching points, with 459,000 students and 294,000 graduates. It also provided non-academic continuing education and training for 654.38+200,000 non-commissioned officers.

Minority education is devoted to training talents in minority areas, with 340,000 students at present. Tibet Branch provides more opportunities for Tibetan scholars to receive higher education and lifelong education. There are 7 undergraduate majors such as Chinese language and literature and 5 specialties such as nursing, with 4446 students and 808 graduates1person.

As one of the carriers of the "Learning to Realize Dreams" project, the "New Industrial Workers Training and Development Assistance Program" explores a new industrial workers training mode of "sending teachers to enterprises" and "learning without leaving their posts", which has fulfilled many industrial workers' university dreams. This college has enrolled 6.5438+0.37 million migrant workers and graduated nearly one million people.
