Continuing medical education is a lifelong medical education that focuses on learning new theories, new knowledge, new technologies and new methods after graduation from medical education. In order to strengthen and standardize the credit management of continuing medical education, according to the Ministry of Health,
Regulations on Continuing Medical Education (for Trial Implementation) promulgated by the Ministry of Personnel, and the National Committee for Continuing Medical Education formulated the Measures for Granting Credits for Continuing Medical Education. The object of continuing medical education refers to the health technical personnel with intermediate or above titles in various medical and health institutions at all levels.
Credit requirements
Continuing medical education implements the credit system. The subjects of continuing medical education participate in continuing medical education activities every year and get no less than 25 credits, including 5- 10 credits for Class I and 15-20 credits for Class II.
The subjects of continuing medical education in medical and health units of all provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government, tertiary hospitals and primary prevention and health care institutions must obtain 10 credits for participating in national continuing medical education projects within five years. These two credits can't replace each other.
Credit classification
According to the activities of continuing medical education, credits are divided into two categories: first-class credits and second-class credits. Class I credits: Class I credits are awarded by national continuing medical education programs and provincial and municipal continuing medical education programs.
National continuing medical education project: a project reviewed by the National Continuing Medical Education Committee, approved and announced by the Ministry of Health. The national continuing medical education base project organized by the Ministry of Health was announced.
Provincial continuing medical education projects: projects reviewed by the continuing medical education committees of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government and approved and announced by the provincial health administrative departments. Projects organized by provincial continuing medical education bases and announced by provincial health administrative departments.
The projects organized by Chinese Medical Association, Chinese Stomatological Association, Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, Chinese Nursing Association and other first-class discipline societies and filed with the National Committee for Continuing Medical Education are all provincial-level continuing medical education projects.
Class II credits: self-study, publishing papers, scientific research projects, academic activities organized by units and other forms of continuing medical education activities are awarded Class II credits.
