"Sichuan University of Light Chemical Technology" is the former Sichuan Institute of Light Chemical Technology located in Zigong City, Sichuan Province. The school's predecessor was the Southwest Branch of East China Institute of Chemical Technology (now East China University of Science and Technology) established in 1965. 1965, according to President Mao Zedong's strategic decision of "preparing for the famine and serving the people", Premier Zhou Enlai of the State Council personally instructed East China Institute of Chemical Technology (now East China University of Science and Technology), a key institution of higher learning of the Ministry of Education, to move some secrecy majors to the west, set up the Southwest Branch of East China Institute of Chemical Technology in Zigong City (code name "Project 652"), and started the school-running process of serving the "Third Line Construction" and moving to Sichuan.

1979 was renamed Sichuan institute of chemical technology, and 1983 was renamed Sichuan institute of light chemical technology. In 2003, four universities merged to form "Sichuan Institute of Technology". It is an ordinary university with the coordinated development of science and engineering, management, humanities and social sciences, with a history of more than 50 years of undergraduate education and 10 years of postgraduate education. It is located in Zigong City, Sichuan Province, a national historical and cultural city with the reputation of "the hometown of dinosaurs, the Millennium Salt Capital and the Southern Lamp City".
