CET-4 is a national teaching examination sponsored by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education. The main target of the examination is undergraduates or postgraduates who have completed CET-4 according to the syllabus. Standardized grades 4 and 6 were prepared at the end of 1986 and formally implemented at 1987.

The scores of CET-4 are: Listening (35%)249, Reading (35%)249, Comprehensive (10%)70, Writing and Translation (20%) 142. The total score is 7 10.

Examination reform

Examination paper structure of CET-4.

As far as the language ability is concerned, the CET-4 in the pilot stage consists of the following four parts: 1) Listening comprehension; 2) Reading comprehension; 3) cloze or correct mistakes; 4) Writing and translation.

Listening comprehension scores accounted for 35%; Among them, listening dialogue 15% and listening passage 20%. The listening dialogue part includes listening comprehension of short dialogue and long dialogue; The listening part includes short comprehension of selected questions and compound dictation.

The translation part tests the Chinese-English translation ability at the level of sentences, phrases or common words.
