Age-related cataract can reach maturity, or near maturity, the vision is below 4.0, the basic visual performance is good, or the retinal function test is normal. For complicated cataract, the primary eye disease or systemic disease that causes cataract should be treated first, and surgery should be considered only when the condition is stable and there are no surgical contraindications.
For traumatic cataract, except those complicated with inflammation after trauma or those with intraocular foreign bodies removed soon, such as swelling of lens or allergic inflammation caused by lens cortex, surgery should be performed quickly. For congenital cataract, such as binocular cataract, we should operate as soon as possible to prevent amblyopia.
For incomplete cataract that still has a certain vision and does not affect children's activities, the operation can be postponed until after five to six years old. If their eyesight is lower than 4.3, which affects their education, they can undergo surgery in advance to correct their eyesight.
