What is the Disciple Rule?

Disciples Rules is a three-character poem written by Li Yuxiu, an educator in Qing Dynasty. This is a standard of living for primary school students according to the teachings of Confucius. The full text consists of 360 sentences, 1080 words. The core idea of Confucianism is filial piety and benevolence.

During the reign of Kangxi, Manchu, as the ruling class of ethnic minorities, actively pursued the identity of Confucianism for the purpose of long-term rule. Including respecting Confucius, advocating the study of the Four Books and Five Classics, and respecting Confucius as a "master of great achievements"; Overhaul the Confucius Temple, worship Confucius in the Spring and Autumn Period, and declare that Confucius and Confucianism are the foundation of the country. Disciples Rules was written in this literary atmosphere.

Disciple Rules was originally named Xun Mengwen, and the original author Li Yuxiu was a scholar in Kangxi period of Qing Dynasty. He listed the rules and regulations that disciples should abide by when they are at home, when they go out, when they are filial, when they leave, when they are sincere and trustworthy, and when they are kind and have spare capacity, and they should learn.

Later, Jia Cunren revised it and renamed it Disciples Rules.
