Reflections on reading quality education in the United States
I have heard about the book "Quality Education in America" for a long time, and I have skimmed some fragments, which is of great value for thinking and learning. This book consists of ten parts, plus an introduction and a postscript. Analyze a question in each section.

First, creative performance can't be taught?

In the understanding of many educators in China, creativity can be "taught". Creative thinking can be "trained". The author believes that creativity is an organic combination of creation and creation. The so-called "innovation" means breaking the routine, and the so-called "creation" means producing something of practical significance on the basis of breaking the routine-including methods, theories, products, things, etc. In other words, creation must have two elements: there is no "creation" without breaking the routine; If you don't "create" something meaningful, you can only dream of going to heaven. Therefore, creativity or creativity refers to the characteristics or ability to break away from convention and produce something of practical significance. "Teaching" means "passing on knowledge or skills to people", just as people's intelligence can't be passed on from teachers to students. Creativity is a characteristic lurking in people's physical and psychological levels, and it can't be passed on from A to B. Therefore, creativity can only be cultivated, but not taught! Educators should create such an environment suitable for cultivating students' creativity. Without the challenge to tradition, there is no creation. The first step to challenge convention is to ask questions. So the author's American professor always likes to say, "No questions, no answers. A good question is more valuable than a good answer! "

Second, do you want to vote for yourself?

Americans teach their children from an early age: do what you think should be done! And our first consideration in China is not what I should do, but what others will think of me. It is difficult to vote for yourself on a registered ballot, and it is difficult to achieve an inner leap! "If you don't believe in yourself, who dares to vote for you?"

When we think like this, our hearts have achieved a qualitative leap.

Third, should children be taught what is right and wrong?

American schools do not prohibit teachers from expressing their personal views, but only regard teachers' personal views as the criterion of "right" or "wrong" or "yes" or "no". Therefore, if teachers must express their personal views, they must declare that they are their own personal views, and they cannot try to influence students with their personal views, let alone use them as a criterion for judging right and wrong.

Fourth, do you want to punish children?

"The United States is a society ruled by law. The legal provisions are there, and no one earnestly advises you not to make mistakes. Some are just people who follow the rules. " There is a theory in our country: "Stop students from making mistakes in time before their inner thoughts just sprout, but they have not yet become external behaviors." The punishment system in American schools allows children to make mistakes before entering the society. With this experience of "educating yourself", it is possible to make no or fewer mistakes in the future. "

Generally speaking, this book is easy to understand, just like an ordinary person, which makes people feel kind. Don't think it's a novel, but it's all real life. The author is both a father and an educator. He analyzed the educational gap between China and the United States in the form of narration and discussion.

This book describes the education situation in the United States and compares it with the current education situation in China. Only by comparison can we truly see the difference between ourselves and others. There is not much truth in this book, but the examples are interesting. And these vivid and interesting examples illustrate the truth that people can't let go. We are deeply inspired. Through studying and reading, it also has certain influence and thinking on my art education.
