Generally speaking, there is little difference between open education and online education in the form of running a school and teaching mode. Both of them learn through multimedia devices and networks, so open education is actually a kind of network education, but network education generally refers to modern distance education.

Open education implements a complete credit system, and the student status is valid for 8 years. It adopts the teaching form of combining network with traditional teaching, mainly including the combination of computer network teaching, face-to-face tutoring, self-study and TV teaching.

Compared with open education, distance education has no face-to-face courses and its learning form is relatively simple. Online education students spend most of their study time apart from teachers and classmates, and there is no classroom.
