The officers and men of the Jiangsu-Zhejiang Military Region of the New Fourth Army and the cadres of the Jiangsu-Zhejiang-Anhui Border Region were ordered to retreat to the north of the Yangtze River in late September. 10On June 55438+05, nearly 1000 officers and men of the fourth column of the Jiangsu-Zhejiang Military Region and some cadres and migrant workers in the southern Jiangsu base area who participated in the evacuation northward crossed the river from Yinsha, Wujin County to Taixing by boat. Unfortunately, the ship sank in the river about 2000 meters southwest of Tianxing Bridge due to the old ship, leaking bilge and overloading of personnel and materials. Because less than 100 people were rescued and more than 800 people died unfortunately.

In order to remember the martyrs, educate future generations, hope for the past and remember them forever, 40 years after the 800-year-old heroic sacrifice, the provincial government decided to repair the tomb, relocate and erect a monument to build a museum for the martyrs, and the whole museum building project was undertaken by Taixing County. 1In July, 986, the tomb of the martyrs was completed ahead of schedule. On July 8, the loyal bones of the martyrs who were originally buried by the Tianxingqiao River were moved here for burial. 1987 10 10/5, the 42nd anniversary of the 800th heroic sacrifice, to commemorate the completion of the building and officially open to the public.

The memorial hall has a beautiful environment, evergreen pines and cypresses, and is solemn. On the front, there are eight vigorous characters inscribed by Ye Fei, former vice chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee (NPCSC) and deputy commander of the Jiangsu-Zhejiang Military Region, "Martyrs are brave and fearless at Zhenjiang Sea". Inscription by the provincial government on the back to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the sacrifice of the 800 heroes. The inscription briefly describes the process of martyrs' sacrifice and the significance of building a tomb and monument. Then you can see 1 magnificent vertical monument with a height of 18.8 meters. The monument is called "Monument to the Sacrifice Martyrs in the Northern Withdrawal of the Jiangsu and Zhejiang Military Region of the New Fourth Army", which was also inscribed by Ye Fei. The base of the monument presents a sunken ship shape, which means that the martyr was crushed to death by the ship. Viewed from the side, the monument is like a jumping wave, symbolizing that the revolutionary spirit of the martyrs will last forever like the Yangtze River and be passed down from generation to generation. I looked at it in awe.

After the vertical monument, I came to the exhibition room of the memorial hall. Here are some historical photos and the lives of martyrs, which belong to the Jiangsu and Zhejiang military regions and are very successful; Martyr fame, light for thousands of years; Inherit the tradition and carry forward the three parts. Out of the showroom, to the north is the cemetery where 800 heroes are buried, with an area of 98 square meters and a height of 2.5 meters. The school held a student growth ceremony there.
