Why is female education an important symbol to measure the level of national and social development?
1. Equal educational opportunities for men and women: the gap between ideal and reality

"Equality, development and peace" is the theme of women's development in the world. Education is a ladder to equality, and "women's schooling is one of the keys to open the lock of development". Women's education or education level is not only an important symbol to measure women's social status, but also a prerequisite to directly affect whether women can participate in society extensively and play their social responsibilities. Our government has always attached importance to the special position of women and women's education in the country's modernization, and clearly stipulated by law that women enjoy the same rights as men in politics, economy, education, science and technology, culture and family, providing a broad world for women to display their intelligence. In education, we have adopted a series of policies and measures that are conducive to women's education, emphasizing the protection of equal opportunities for men and women in enrollment, further study, employment, awarding degrees and sending them abroad to study. At the same time, we vigorously develop education and provide more opportunities for women to go to school.

The imbalance of educational opportunities leads to the low overall cultural quality of urban professional women. Under the "all-inclusive" employment system of planned economy, urban women's employment is guaranteed by "equal pay for equal work" for men and women, holding the country's "iron rice bowl" and running smoothly in the employment pattern of "high employment, low salary, low efficiency and low quality". The market economy has ruthlessly broken the original balance. As the best competitive economy, market economy is characterized by improving efficiency and talent competition, and adjusting leverage is the quality of workers. On the one hand, the marketization of labor force provides new opportunities and multiple choices for women's employment, broadens the field of women's employment, enhances women's competitive consciousness and ability, and is conducive to talents to stand out. On the other hand, it also makes a large number of women with low cultural and technical quality suffer the impact of survival of the fittest. The chain reaction is the phenomenon of excluding women in recruitment, enrollment and graduation distribution. The most sensitive thing is higher education. The channels for women to participate in higher education are not smooth, the admission rate of female college students at the input end is low, and the distribution of female college students at the output end is difficult. There are even more discordant notes: advocating "effective allocation of resources" and "development first, then fairness". It is a prominent fact that men and women have unequal opportunities to receive higher education, but the country must seek development first and then fairness. (Note: Zhang Jianqi: Research on the Present Situation of Women's Higher Education in China, Exploration of Higher Education,No. 1997. )

The introduction of market competition mechanism has led to increasing pressure on women's social roles. In the conflict between professional roles and gender roles, the double standards of "successful career" and "good wife and mother" put urban professional women in a dilemma. Some people give up or weaken their social roles-going home; Some people become strong, but they leave regrets-destroying their homes.

Equality of educational opportunities is a sensitive and fragile issue. In China, there is not only the accumulation of long-term traditional culture of "preferring boys to girls", but also the reality that the economic level is not enough to support education, which leads to the failure to popularize compulsory education. Some gaps and irregularities caused by the alternation and friction between the old and new mechanisms in the social transformation period have also increased the chances of problems and, in a sense, increased the difficulty of popularizing female education. In order to realize the ideal of equal educational opportunities, we need to work harder.
